The visit comes within the framework of activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides in Riyadh in 2014 with the aim of enhancing the mutual technical cooperation between the two sides in the field of ICT and focusing on mutual cooperation between the two countries in order to develop advanced telecommunications services, and various services provided to beneficiaries.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the most important achievements in previous years and how to address the common regulatory challenges in the ICT sector. In this regard, H.E Dr. AlRuwais referred to the high level of support that the Kingdom's ICT sector receives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince. This has made the Kingdom a prominent torch bearer among countries in the region. The most recent classification of the United Nations specialized ICT agency, the ITU, now places the Kingdom amongst countries which have the highest maturity level in regulating the ICT sector.

The Governor of CITC also met with the Algerian Minister of Post, Telecommunications, Technologies and Digitalization, Dr. Huda Iman Faroun. The meeting highlighted the Kingdom's efforts in sustaining the development of the ICT sector and the future goals to be achieved in the light of the vision of the Kingdom 2030 and the National Transition Program 2020. These include the goal of connecting more than 2 million households with fiber optics and covering 70% of housing in remote areas with high-speed Internet services.

The two sides stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between the two countries in various fields related to the ICT sector. They pledged to continue coordination at international forums and further efforts to reach consensus positions on issues related to ICT, especially during the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference that will be held in October 2018.
