Quality of mobile phone services during the Hajj and Umrah seasons is within target limits..

Field measurements were carried out by CITC in both Makkah and Madinah during the 1431 Hajj and Ramadan seasons. They showed that the performance of the public mobile networks, in terms of the listener's ability to hear the other party, is within internationally accepted limits at peak times. The intent of the measurements was to verify that the mobile service providers in the Kingdom meet the quality of service standards, which were set by the Commission in accordance with international best practice and standards. Measurements were performed using specialized instrumentation that measures the sound quality index through simulation of the natural human voice. A specific sound clip is sent many times through the operator's network and the received sound is compared to a perfect sample and assessed according to internationally accepted levels. The measurements and readings are performed and recorded automatically. The graph below shows the performance for the test calls on the public mobile networks, in terms of the listener's ability to hear the other party. These results are within internationally accepted limits for such cases. This is more notable when taking into account the challenge faced by the mobile service providers in serving huge numbers of pilgrims in a single location, leading to large volumes of voice traffic in a short period of time. This is a situation that does not occur very often anywhere else in the world.
