CITC Board of Directors Approves Version 2 of the National Numbering Plan (NNP)

The Board of Directors approved version 2 of the Saudi National Numbering Plan (NNP). This Plan provides for availability of numbering resources for many years to come, in order to keep pace with continuing growth of modern services and technologies in the ICT sector.
In developing the Plan, CITC states was committed to ensuring that any changes to the numbering system would have minimum impact on existing communications services, while at the same time enhancing the ability of the Plan to accommodate new services and continued growth in the number of subscriptions and users. The change experienced by subscribers with implementation  of the plan will be limited to adding one digit to the six geographic zone codes. This will change the method of dialing numbers outside the local calling area. The zone codes “01, 02, 03, 04, 06 and 07” will become “011, 012, 013, 014, 016 and 017”.
Implementation of this Plan will require certain changes to the systems of the service providers. These will be carried out in phases.
The mechanism for implementing the plan is being coordinated between CITC and the telecommunications service providers and will be announced at a later date. A media campaign will also be launched in due course to publicize and explain the changes, and to make the public aware of the objectives and key aspects of the plan.
