The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) revealed an increase in the penetration rate of 5G services in the Kingdom during Q4 of 2020. During this quarter, 5G services reached 51 Saudi cities, compared to 44 cities during the previous quarter.
In its quarterly report “Meqyas", CITC announced (Zain) to be the top service provider for 5G penetration by reaching 44 cities, followed by (STC) with 22 cities, then (Mobily) in the last place with 21 cities.
The report issued by the commission, revealed the average download speed on mobile 5G networks in the Kingdom to be 315.55 Mbps per second. The report also compared between service providers in terms of average 5G speed. With an average download speed of 342.35 Mbps, (STC) came first, while (Zain) and (Mobily) came second and third respectively, with an average speed of 338.12, and 220.86 Mbps.
The “Meqyas" report comes within CITC's framework to enhance competition among service providers and increase the level of transparency, by publishing indicators on internet speeds and access to social media apps.
